PERRYVILLE – As of midnight Saturday morning, Perry County Coroner William Bill Bohnert, is the acting Perry County Sheriff by virtue of his elected office under Missouri law.
However, Bohnert turned over managerial authority to Perry County Detective Jason Klaus by letter submitted to the Perry County Commission.
From now until October 10, the Perry County Commission will accept letters of interest and resumes from individuals who meet the qualifications and who may be interested in serving as the new sheriff.
The Commission expects to appoint an interim sheriff on October 14 to fill the remainder of Sheriff Gary Schaaf’s term of office, set to expire December 31, 2024.
