Forest Service needs your help identifying suspected thieves

ROLLA, Mo.— Mark Twain National Forest law enforcement is asking for public assistance in identifying individuals, captured on photo and video, that are suspected of stealing from the Marcoot Lookout Tower (near Bunker, Mo.) last year.

These individuals are suspected of removing the Osborne Fire Finder from the lookout tower.

Fire finders assist lookouts in pinpointing the exact location of smoke cross referenced with a map.

They are historical items and are very difficult to replace.

Osborne Fire Finders have been used for more than a century to help fight wildfires.

Video footage captured at Marcoot Tower showing the suspects was posted to the Forest’s Facebook page at facebook.com/marktwainnationalforest

Please look at the photos and watch the videos to see if the individuals or vehicle look familiar.

If you have any information that can help catch the thieves, please call Mark Twain National Forest’s Patrol Captain Casey Hutsell at 573-341-7463
