Rotary invites public to peace mural unveiling

STE. GENEVIEVE – Each year World Peace Day is observed around the world on September 21. The UN General Assembly has declared this a as day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, through observing 24 hours of non-violence and cease-fire.

“Peace is an area of focus for Rotary International and the organization encourages its 1.2 million Rotarians throughout the world to observe this important day,” said Ste. Genevieve Rotary Club President Jamie Ballew. “The Missouri Rotary District 6060 issued $500 grants to clubs to mark the observance with unique projects and initiatives. Our club called on local artist Joy French to paint a mural promoting peace and Rotary’s leading tenets on a wall at our meeting room at the Country Mart Party Room.”

The Ste. Genevieve Rotary Club invites the public to view the mural on Wednesday, September 21 from 4 to 6 p.m. Refreshments will be provided.

“We think Joy’s mural perfectly captures our belief as Rotarians that we can help build understanding, share our passion for peace, and convey our confidence that peace is possible,” said Ballew. “We hope the Ste. Genevieve community will join us on September 21st as we promote the UN’s idea of greeting neighbors, welcoming strangers and creating a more peaceful world.”
