Missouri National Guard commemorates engineer lineage

RAYTOWN, Mo. – Missouri National Guard’s 110th Engineer Battalion’s lineage will be commemorated on September 17, 2022 with a memorial dedication and recognition of the land donation.

Activated in 1917, the 110th Engineer Battalion was headquartered in Kanas City, Mo. The unit saw combat operations in WWI, WWII and Iraq and supported several state and federal emergencies. In 2006, the unit colors were folded and the 110th Engineer Battalion was deactivated.

In 1937 members of the 110th Engineers created the Military Country Club, which consisted of soldier membership and a recreation and training site, which was donated to the Missouri National Guard. The site will be memorialized by a military bulldozer, like the bulldozers once operated by soldiers of the 110th Engineers.

Sergeant Major (Ret.) Gary Boyd was the last senior enlisted soldier with the unit. He and other senior leaders who helped to organize the event said, “It’s such an honor to be able to sunset the legacy of the 110th by donating this land to the Guard that will continue to be used to help train those coming behind us.”

The ceremony will occur 11 a.m. September 17, 2022 at the Field Maintenance Shop, 12000 Military Club Rd, Raytown, Mo 64128 next to the bulldozer memorial.
