KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Prices in the Midwest Region, as measured by the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U), declined 0.2 percent in August, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Tuesday.
The index for energy was down 7.6 percent, while the food index rose 1.0 percent in August. The all items less food and energy index advanced 0.4 percent due mainly to increases in the costs for owners’ equivalent rent of residence and medical care services.
Over the last 12 months, the CPI-U rose 8.1 percent. The index for all items less food and energy increased 5.8 percent over the year.
Energy prices advanced 23.9 percent, led by an increase in the price of gasoline.
Food prices were up 12.9 percent compared to August 2021.
