Coulter to offer workshop before plein air in Ste. Genevieve

STE. GENEVIEVE == The Sainte Genevieve Art Guild’s annual plein air painting event is scheduled September 21-25 and artists who want to “brush up” their technique can do so at a special one-day workshop that will be offered by award-winning plein air artist Marty Coulter on September 20.

Organizers say Coulter will share “some of the secrets of his success” during the session, which will take place from 9am to 4pm at the Ste. Genevieve Art Center (310 Merchant Street) in historic downtown Ste. Genevieve.

The agenda calls for Coulter to discuss techniques and lead an outdoor painting session followed by a critique and question and answer session.

The workshop is $150 for Sainte Genevieve Art Guild members; the cost for non-members is $175. Enrollment is limited to 12 attendees.

Coulter’s professional career spans more than five decades, during which he created illustrations for architects and builders and for national and international entities such as Universal Studios, Sea World and the Olympic Stadium in Barcelona Spain. He has been a plein air artist for 15 years, winning numerous local and national awards.

Since 2012 he has consistently won prizes at the Art Guild plein air event and says he has “taken home quite a few ribbons.” He also has consistently won prizes at the Augusta, Missouri plein air competition.

Deposit checks of $75 may be mailed to: Marty Coulter Studio, 424 Windy Hills Drive  Washington  MO 63090.

Artists may register for the Art Guild’s plein air competition at the Art Center and Art Museum at 310 Merchant Street beginning Wednesday morning, September 21, through Thursday, Friday and Saturday morning.

Prizes for the event total $3,000, including a “people’s choice” award.

A Saturday night reception will be held from 6-9 p.m. and the exhibit will be on display Sunday, between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
