STE. GENEVIEVE – The Ste. Genevieve Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War Camp 326 invite you to their Civil War camp to be held August 27th at the Felix Valle House State Historic Site 198 Merchant St. from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Visitors will see a soldier’s camp and equipment, review lists of over 800 Ste. Genevieve County citizens were in the military during the Civil War, and see various exhibits of Civil War memorabilia. Children, both young and old can learn to march Civil War style. It’s a wonderful opportunity to hear how the war affected our area.
The Presbyterian String Band will be playing a medley of Civil War era songs from 9:45 to 11 a. m. on the corner of Merchant and Main.
At 11 a. m. there will be a reenactment of the August 1861 raid by Federal troops on the Bank of Ste. Genevieve. Because of the threat of local Southern sympathizers, the contents of the bank were removed to St. Louis. The reenactment will occur on the corner of Merchant and Main.
This is a family friendly event and handicap accessible (on grass at Felix Valle). It is free to the public.
