Aldermen increase repaving contract to deal with ponding on fourth street, recommend $1 an hour pay raise for city workers

STE. GENEVIEVE – The Ste. Genevieve Board of Aldermen voted 5-0 with three members absent last night during a special session to increase the repaving contract with Bauman Contracting by $36,659. The extra money will be used to fix a ponding problem on North Fourth Street between LeCompte and Washington Street.

City Administrator Happy Welch told the aldermen last week, that the additional money will do some major work on the east side with the sidewalk and the west side with the asphalt and a couple of retaining walls.

The measure was given both first and second round approval by identical votes.

The three aldermen who did not attend the meeting were “Buck” Jokerst, Jeff Eydmann, and Joe Prince.

The special meeting lasted less than three minutes.

It was followed by a two-hour plus work session to discuss the city budget.

One of the items considered during the budget discussion was pay raises for city employees.

The aldermen recommended one dollar an hour for all city employees.
