Four Memphis boys hurt, two of them seriously, in I-55 crash in Perry County

JEFFERSON CITY — Four boys from Memphis, Tennessee aged 10, nine, seven and six were hurt in a traffic crash Wednesday morning on I-55 in Perry County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports two of the boys, the seven and 10 year old, had serious injuries. They were transported to SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital by Air Evac helicopter. The two other boys, aged nine and six, had minor injuries and were taken to Perry County Memorial Hospital by Perry County EMS.

The patrol reports the crash happened when a southbound 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by 28-year-old Lonnie Orr, also of Memphis, developed a vehicle defect and swerved. The driver overcorrected and the Trailblazer slid off the side of the roadway and oveturned.

The patrol says Orr was buckled up, but said the use of seat belts by the boys was unknown.

The crash happened about 10:50 a.m. at the 134 mile marker.
