Smith fights to protect law-abiding gun owners, votes against House Democrats’ bill to ban firearms

WASHINGTON – On Friday, U.S. Representative Jason Smith (Mo.) voted against the radical anti-gun legislation passed by the House this evening. Smith spoke on the House floor earlier this week to slam House Democrats for rushing to pass legislation to ban one of the most popular firearms in America.

Smith is a staunch supporter of the Second Amendment.

Last month, he coauthored a Congressional Review Act Joint Resolution of Disapproval that would block President Biden’s so-called ghost gun rule. Biden’s rule would reclassify gun kits as firearms under the Gun Control Act, requiring manufacturers to be licensed and include serial numbers on the kits. It would also require commercial sellers to run background checks before selling the kits.

Smith and U.S. Senator Josh Hawley (Mo.) reintroduced their U.S. Military Right to Carry Act in March 2021. The bill would ease the burden active-duty military servicemembers face when renewing concealed-carry licenses. In addition, it would allow servicemembers to renew their permits by mail and requires states to treat members of the military equally to state residents in issuing concealed carry permits.

Following Are Smith’s Remarks:

“Our nation is at a crossroads. After a year and a half of one-party Democrat rule, America is on the brink of a recession, violent crime is on the rise, and our freedoms are under attack like never before.

“Homicide rates across the nation are up nearly 50% compared to 2020.

“There have been at least 80 incidents of pro-abortion vandalism, intimidation, and violence since May.

“At a time when 85% of Americans are concerned about rising crime rates, the Left is pushing to ban one of the most popular firearms in America. Not only is this reckless, it is a violation of Americans’ Second Amendment rights.

“Our country needs leadership. But when the Left is in charge, the only thing Americans get is an attack on our freedoms. I’ll never stop fighting for Missourians and our conservative values.”
