Major boundary expansion for Middle Mississippi River National Wildlife Refuge 

STE. GENEVIEVE – The Midwest Region of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has been approved to develop a draft land protection plan and environmental assessment for the proposed expansion of the Middle Mississippi River National Wildlife Refuge. 

 

We’d like to hear your thoughts about this proposed expansion. Public information and comment stations will be located at the following locations from August 3 to August 16, 2022: 

 

  • Audubon Center at Riverlands – 301 Riverlands Way, West Alton, MO
    • Visit with the refuge manager at this location on August 6, 2022 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.
  • Chester Public Library (downstairs meeting room) – 733 State Street, Chester, IL
    • Visit with the refuge manager at this location on August 3, 2022, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m.
  • Cape Girardeau Conservation Nature Center – 2289 County Park Drive, Cape Girardeau, MO
    • Visit with the refuge manager at this location on August 6th from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. 

 

At this time there are no specific details available regarding the proposal – we are seeking comments and concerns that will help us to shape our proposed plan and develop additional alternatives. Once a draft plan has been developed, it will be available to the public for comment at a future date. 

These information stations will give you an opportunity to: 

 

  • Put your name on a list to receive a copy of the draft Land Protection Plan and Environmental Assessment when it is ready for public comment 
  • Ask questions 
  • Express your views about the proposed expansion 
  •
