American Queen stops at Chester

CHESTER – The American Queen cruise ship visited Chester Saturday July 23.  The paddlewheel luxury ship cruised into town in the early morning hours and stayed throughout the day departing late in the afternoon.

The American Queen docked at the Mississippi River Front in Chester Saturday July 23 so that passengers could shop, eat, see the sights and viit the home of Popeye throughout the day.

Before 8 a.m. on Saturday July 23 local tour guides gathered at the river front in Chester to prepare to give tours of Chester.  Patti Carter, Chester Recreation Director, organizes the volunteers who lead guided tours on the American Queen Cruise Line Tour Busses throughout the day of ship visits.  Pictured (left to right) are Linda Rader, Volunteer Guide; American Queen Guest Director, “Lucy”; Linda Schafer, Volunteer Guide; and Don Berry, Volunteer Guide. American Queen Tour Buses await the arrival of the first passengers of the day Saturday July 23 when the stately ship arrived in Chester.  Four Cruise Line Tour Busses follow the ship along its path during each cruise to take passengers on guided tours of the ports at which the ship docks.  The Home of Popeye was the scheduled stop for the day Saturday July 23.

This is a front view of the American Queen Cruise Ship that stopped at the Mississippi Riverfront in Chester Saturday July 23.  Shown here the crew has successfully completed docking procedures and arranged for passengers to begin departing the ship to enjoy a full day of guided tours of the City of Chester.
