SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Governor Pritzker has updated his emergency orders for the state by relaxing some of the previous COVID-19 restrictions, but he continues to maintain his emergency powers and Illinois continues to be in state of emergency.
Illinois is one of 14 states with emergency orders in place. While the majority of other states lifted their COVID-19 emergency mandates long ago, here in Illinois, Governor Pritzker sees an alternate reality declaring every Illinois county ‘a disaster area.’ Earlier this year, the CDC released that almost 90% of people already had the virus or got the vaccine. There’s no data proving we are in a crisis or on the precipice of a crisis.
The real reason the governor has kept our great state under emergency mandates is simple: power. As long as he can deem Illinois in a state of emergency, the governor can keep his control of schools with mask mandates and virtual learning, force vaccinations, shut down businesses, and chip away at the will of the people until he has complete control. If given the opportunity, he will continue to milk the emergency orders for all they’re worth.
In response to these changes, Illinois Freedom Caucus member State Representative Chris Miller says, “The response to COVID-19 has failed at every level of the Pritzker administration. The response has been based 100% on political science. He is in the process of trying to clean up the mess he created.”
Governor Pritzker needs to show Illinoisans the proof of the disaster right now. He can’t because it doesn’t exist.
