2,000 CEC customers affected by Tuesday’s power outage

STE. GENEVIEVE — There is no word on the cause of the power outage that affected a large portion of Ste. Genevieve yesterday evening.

It began about 6:15 and ended around 8 p.m.

Citizens Electric officials posted the following information on its Facebook page.

8:00 PM UDATE: The power should be restored to most of our membership. Crews will be working late making further repairs that shouldn’t impact service. Thank you for your patience as we work through these issues. Outages and safety concerns can always be reported via phone 1-877-876-3511

UPDATE: A section of transmission line is out that is fed from a large (bulk) substation, feeding several other smaller substations, causing the outages.

Our crews and team are aware of the over 2,000 outages in Ste. Genevieve County. We are in transit and assessing the area. More details will be shared here as they become available.

You can also view updates on the outage map via the CEC Mobile app and via the website.

The CEC statement did not explain why the “line is out”.

Among the problems the outage caused, a burglar alarm at a local bank and darkened traffic signals. The city placed temporary boulevard stop signs at the affected intersections.
