Police tell aldermen they have video of vehicle knocking down lamp post

STE. GENEVIEVE — The Ste. Genevieve Board of Aldermen met in regular session for 37 minutes last night and learned that the police department has determined how the historic style lamp and post at Fourth and Market Streets were knocked down Sunday.

The police department reported a video of the incident shows a pick up truck hit the lamp post. It was stated at the meeting that the license plate on the truck was not visible in the video. The investigation will continue. In the meantime a replacement lamp is being prepared.

In other business at the meeting:

City Administrator Happy Welch discussed his report with the board.

Welch and the board also discussed applying for an ARPA grant. The grants are available in amounts up to $5 million, but it does require a match of up to 20 percent and since the process is competitive, the higher the match the more points the application will get. If the city can put up $200,000 it could get the maximum, $5 million. Welch said the city has the $200,000 available in its reserves. Applications are due at 5 p.m. July 14. The aldermen will need to meet in a special session, which may happen at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, July 7th in order submit an application on time. The board’s next regular meeting is 6 p.m. July 14th.

With the grant money, Welch said the city is considering the purchase of a couple of generators for the city’s water wells, and waterlines on Oakwood, along with other water mains in different neighborhoods.

Reports from the police department and Alliance Water Resources were presented.

The alderman approved two resolutions as part of the consent agenda:

Resolution 2022-54, appointing Tyler Weinhold to the Parks and Recreation Board and

Resolution 2022-58, approving a $24,000 marketing matching grant with the Missouri Division of Tourism.

The aldermen also approved a street closure requested by the Ste. Genevieve Militia from the Avenue of Flags to the alley just south of the Anvil Restaurant for July 4th for a patriotic Fourth of July event.

Three resolutions were removed from the consent agenda for discussion, and then passed by the aldermen:

Resolution 2022-55, authorizing the mayor to sign a contract brokered through Lakenan Insurance Agency with U.S. Specialty Insurance Company, a subsidiary of Tokio Marine, HCC Company to provide property and casualty insurance.

Resolution 2022-56, authorizing the mayor to sign a contract with Missouri Employers Mutual to provide Workers Compensation Coverage.

Resolution 2022-57, authorizing the mayor to sign a contract with CPC/Lloyds to provide cyber liability insurance.

The aldermen gave first and second round approval to

Bill No. 4497, a master agreement for professional services with C.B. Engineering, Inc. D/B/A Cochran for stormwater management.

The aldermen gave first round approval to

Bill No. 4498, a measure adopting new ward boundaries in alignment with the 2020 census.

The aldermen then adjourned with no subsequent work session.

Alderwoman Kristi Cleghorn was absent.
