KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Missouri Democratic Party announced Thursday that it received a Community Engagement Grant from the Democratic National Committee for LGBTQ+ voter outreach and education. This grant follows another grant MDP secured for regional offices from The Red State Fund earlier this year.
The Community Engagement Grant Project offers both individual and organizational microgrants. The Missouri Democratic Party received the maximum amount allotted per application: $2,500.
Executive Director Randy Dunn released the following statement regarding the new funding:
“We are ecstatic to continue to see more Democratic funding come to Missouri. The Show Me State is ready for change and we must engage all parts of our vibrant communities to set us on the right path. This LGBTQ+ grant is particularly helpful during Pride Month. The funding will help us pay fees for tabling, walking in the Pride parades and facilitating voter registration at large community events. All these small things cost money and any amount of extra funding goes a long way. As a gay man, securing additional LGBTQ+ funding has been a priority of mine from the start. I’ve seen the need for more resources firsthand; while I was running and legislating as the first out gay person of color in Missouri, microgrants like these would have made a huge difference. We are grateful to the DNC for this LGBTQ+ Outreach Grant and look forward to applying and receiving more grants in the future,” said Dunn.
