SADD sponsors mock vehicle accident
STE. GENEVIEVE – The Ste. Genevieve High School chapter of Students Against Destructive Decisions sponsored a mock accident last month. The mock accident was held with the assistance and support of many city and county emergency services.

The purpose of the event was to allow high school students to see what happens at the scene of a serious motor vehicle accident and to encourage them to drive and ride sober.

The event included a staged accident on Washington Street in front of the high school. One car held two students, one acting as the impaired driver and the other staged as a severely injured passenger. The other car held a student who was staged as a fatality.

Emergency personnel responded to the scene and worked the wreck as though it were a real event.

Senior students were dismissed from classes to walk outside and view the event.

They were able to see the “impaired” driver tested and then arrested, the person who had sustained fatal injuries placed into the coroner’s van, and the injured being taken by ambulance to the back parking lot where Air Evac services transported her to Ste. Genevieve County Memorial Hospital.

After the accident presentation, seniors headed to the high school gymnasium, where Corporal Dallas Thompson of the Missouri Highway Patrol gave a presentation about safe and sober driving. Seniors were warned of the dangers of distracted and impaired driving and encouraged to make safe choices on the road.

SADD thanked Ste. Genevieve Police Chief Eric Bennett and the Ste. Genevieve Police Department, Ste. Genevieve County Sheriff’s Office, Ste. Genevieve Volunteer Fire Department, Ste. Genevieve EMS, Ste. Genevieve County Coroner Eric Basler and his staff, Glen Morgan and Ste. Genevieve Towing, Missouri State Highway Patrol Corp. Dallas Thompson and the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Lucas Fallert and AirEvac air ambulance.

Student actors were Kaden Albert, Bella Neel and Jamison Kemper.

Photography and videography was by Katie Ahne and Lily Boyd.

Make-up artist was Sami Richardson.
