STE. GENEVIEVE –The Ste.. Genevieve County Democratic Club recently awarded three scholarships to local students.
Ste. Genevieve High School Senior Peyton Bequette has been chosen as the recipient of the 2022 Ste. Genevieve Democratic Club Members Scholarship. Peyton received a $500 scholarship to assist her when she attends Webster University in the fall.

The Members Scholarship is open to any club member or the child or grandchild of a club member.
Peyton was sponsored by her mom, Johna Bequette, club member and Treasurer.
Each year, several club members form a scholarship committee and select an essay topic and review applications.
This year, the essay topic was “What experience in your life helped shape who you are today?”
Peyton’s essay focused on a lunchroom encounter in middle school which helped begin some important friendships. You can read Peyton’s essay on the club’s website, stegendems.org.
Peyton’s activities include Color Guard, Students Against Destructive Decisions (S.A.D.D.), Marching and Concert Band, Mentors, National Honor Society, German Club and Gaming Club. She plans to Major in Game Design and Development at Webster University. Peyton is the daughter of Chris and Johna Bequette.
The club also provided $250 scholarships to both Ste. Genevieve High School and Valle Catholic High School. Peyton was the Ste. Genevieve High School recipient as well. The Valle Scholarship was awarded to Justin Basler, son of Tammy and David Basler, who will be attending Drury University in the fall.
