Former Mayor Frank Derickson dies

CHESTER — A former mayor of the city of Chester has passed away.

 

Frank Derickson served four terms as Chester mayor beginning in 1985. He passed away Sunday at Cedarhurst Senior Living, Sparta.

 

Before being elected mayor, Derickson served as Chester City Clerk from 1959-1963.

 

Then he served as a city alderman from 1977-1985.

 

He was proud that during his tenure as mayor the city built a new water plant and a new sewage treatment plant.

 

Frank was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Chester.

 

He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post No. 3553 and served as Post Commander in 1959 and 1960.

 

He was also a Chester American Legion Alva Courier Post No. 487 lifetime member.

 

He was a charter member of Chester Eagles Club Aerie No. 3252 and a member of the Chester Masonic Lodge No. 72 and Ainad Shriners.

 

He served as Parade Co-Chairman of Chester’s Sesquicentennial in 1979 and continued serving for a few more years in that position when the celebration continued annually as Popeye’s Picnic.

 

In 2001 the Chester Chamber of Commerce honored him as Citizen of the Year

 

Visitation for Frank Derickson will be 4-8 p.m. Friday and 8-11a.m. Saturday at the Pechacek Funeral Homes, Chester, Illinois.

 

A funeral for Frank E. Derickson will be held at 11 a.m., May 28 at the Pechacek Funeral Homes, Chester

 

Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Chester, Illinois
