STE. GENEVIEVE — Recently, Bloomsdale Elementary School Running Club teamed up with the Ste. Genevieve County Community Center, the Ste. Genevieve Chamber of Commerce and NJHS to host the first annual Betty’s Color Splash 1 Mile Fun Run at Bloomsdale Elementary School.
This run was organized and held in memory of SGHS alumna and former Bloomsdale Elementary teacher Bethany Bequette.
The initiative helped to support a scholarship in Bethany’s memory at Ste. Genevieve High School.
The event raised $1,000 for the scholarship, which was awarded to senior Drew Newman.
This scholarship was based upon kindness and school spirit, both of which Drew personifies!
Students, families and community members participated in the 1-mile walk/run course laid out around Bloomsdale Elementary. NJHS student volunteers tossed colored powders on the participants, and at the end of the walk and run, all participants threw color in the air together to celebrate Bethany.
The Bloomsdale Elementary Run Club was launched with more than 40 third, fourth and fifth grade students who challenged themselves, learned coping skills, built character education and worked hard to help organize the event.
