WIC Guidelines announced for 2022-2023

STE. GENEVIEVE – WIC is a Nutritional Education, Health Promotion and Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children.  Good nutrition helps provide the best possible start in life and is a necessary ingredient for moms and their children to grow healthy and strong.

 

Missouri’s WIC nutrition program wants to help…

 

  • Women who are pregnant, in postpartum (pregnancy ended less than six months ago) or breastfeeding
  • Infants under 12 months old
  • Children under 5 years of age

 

To be eligible in Missouri, you must:

  • Be a resident of Missouri
  • Meet income guidelines (see below guidelines) AND/OR be covered on a government program such as Medicaid, TANF, or Food Stamps
  • Be at nutrition risk

 

Benefits of WIC provided at no cost include:  Nutrition education and guidance for moms and children, breastfeeding education and support, breast pumps, nutritious foods that can be purchased with WIC ecard such as, fruits and vegetables (fresh and frozen), baby food, milk substitutes (cheese, soymilk, yogurt and tofu if criteria is met).   Referrals for healthcare and resources in the community are also provided.

 

A breastfeeding peer counselor is available at the Health Department to work with women who desire to breastfeed or who are currently breastfeeding.  Assistance with problems and concerns help moms achieve her breastfeeding goals.
