City may install security cameras to thwart restroom vandalism

STE. GENEVIEVE – The Ste. Genevieve Board of Aldermen is expected to discuss the recent vandalism at the Valle Spring Park when it meets Thursday for a work session, following its regular meeting.

In his written comments accompanying the amended agenda for the meeting, City Administrator Happy Welch said the park board has discussed the issue and has directed Steve Wilson to look into purchasing cameras and recording equipment for the facility and also requested locking the restroom doors at dusk.

He said Alliance is willing to open the doors on weekdays. Locking the doors would require assistance from the police department. There are no parks personnel working the weekends to open the facilities. It was also discussed doing the same thing for the Main Street Park restrooms.

Welch said there would also have to be some discussion with the police chief due to calls taking them away from locking the facilities and that the camera may be all that is needed.
