Blunt delivers remarks at Ulysses S. Grant Bicentennial Commemoration

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Roy Blunt (Mo.) delivered remarks at a ceremony celebrating the 200th anniversary of the birth of Ulysses S. Grant. At the event, which was held by the U.S. Capitol Historical Society, Blunt highlighted Grant’s connections to Missouri and the significant contributions he made to our nation during the Civil War and later as president.

In 2021, Blunt and U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (Ohio) introduced the bipartisan Ulysses S. Grant Bicentennial Recognition Act requesting President Biden posthumously promote Grant to General of the Armies of the United States, the highest rank in the U.S. Army. U.S. Representative Ann Wagner (Mo.) introduced similar legislation in the House.
