Ruth I. Petrowske

A funeral will be held Wednesday, April 27, 2022 for 93-year-old Ruth I. Petrowske of Chester, Illinois, who passed away at 3:15 a.m., Saturday, April 23, 2022 at her residence.

 

She was born April 20, 1929 in Chester, the daughter of Norbert G. and Martha (nee Bauer) Stumpe, who both preceded her in death.

 

She married Roger Petrowske April 22, 1950 at Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church in Chester; he preceded her in death on October 11, 2020. They were blessed with 70 years of marriage.

 

She is survived by three chilldren: Donna Eggemeyer of Chester, Mary (Dave) Verseman of  Chester, and Nancy (Mitch) Eggemeyer of Chester; a daughter-in-law: Ginny Petrowske of Chester; a brother: Norbert P. “Buddy” (Mary Ann) Stumpe of Chester; two sisters-in-law: Sarah Stumpe of Okeechobee, Fla. and Genevieve Tindall of Murphysboro, Ill.; six grandchildren:

Melissa (Tad) Middleton, Michele (Todd) Grohmann, Chelsie (Tyler) Halterman, Kristen Eggemeyer (Chris Jackson), Erin Eggemeyer and Lee Petrowske (Fiancee Heather Breithaupt) and eight great grandchildren: Blake, Drew and Chase Grohmann, Ella and Camden Middleton, Nash and Layne Halterman and Sloan Jackson; many step grandchildren, step great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

 

She was also preceded in death by a son: Brian Petrowske, three brothers: Roger, Roland and Alan Stumpe; two brothers-in-law: Delmar Petrowske and Jerry Tindall, a sister-in-law: Dorothy Stumpe, two sons-in-law: Gary Dale Eggemeyer and Bruce Wise and a nephew: Jason Stumpe

 

On January 1, 1991, Ruth retired from Chester Community Unit School District No. 139 after 25 years of service. She had worked as the Board of Education and Superintendent’s secretary and district bookkeeper.

 

Ruth was a member of Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church in Chester, Blessed Virgin Mary Altar Sodality, American Legion Auxiliary in Chester, AFSCME Retirees Sub Chapter 56, and Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.

 

Ruth and Roger enjoyed traveling for many years after their retirement. They traveled through all the United States and also many other countries.

 

Ruth was a very devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.

 

She was greatly loved by her family and will be missed so very much.
