STE. GENEVIEVE– Ste. Genevieve County Memorial Hospital is pleased to announce the arrival of Dr. Aswin Kansakar to our community and medical staff. Dr. Kansakar, or Dr. K as he prefers for simplicity, is an internal medicine physician seeing patients at Pine Drive Family Health Care.
Dr. K attended Nepal Medical College and completed his residency at Amita Health St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, Ill.
He most recently practiced in Monticello, Indiana, a town a little larger than Ste. Genevieve.
“Evanston was quite a large city,” he said. “I like practicing in small towns and helping people in rural areas much better,” he said.
Dr. K practices general internal medicine and especially enjoys seeing senior patients.
“I like helping the elderly population and doing what I can to make sure they can stay in their home and prevent hospital stays,” he said. “I enjoy taking care of patients and helping them improve their overall health.”
Dr. K said he didn’t always want to be a doctor. Growing up he always saw himself becoming a teacher.
“I’ve found, though, that in medicine, you really are like a teacher,” he explained. “That’s what I basically do every day—teach people to take care of their health.”
The pandemic hit at the end of Dr. K’s residency, and it was something he never though he’d see.
“I had just started practicing on my own so things got really interesting, real fast,” he said. “It was kind of a rough ride, but it’s been good to constantly stay on top of it and see how it all plays out.”
Even though Dr. K has only been in Ste. Genevieve a short time, he said his overall impression is a good one.
“It’s a very nice town, and everyone is very friendly and helpful.”
Dr. K enjoys travelling, dining out, watching movies, and maybe a little tennis, hiking or cycling—none of which he has been able to do as of late. He and his wife have a two-month-old baby girl.
“Sleep is about all I do in my spare time, now,” he said.

Dr. K had one final note.
“I tend to be a little soft spoken, so don’t be afraid to ask me to speak up when you come to see me,” he laughed.
