BLOOMSDALE — The fourth and fifth grade students at St. Agnes Elementary, recently participated in the 4-H SNAC Program.
Missouri’s 4-H Student Nutrition Advisory Council (SNAC) creates 4-H clubs that focus on teaching healthy eating in combination with leadership and citizenship skills, which are central to 4-H.
The students at St. Agnes met with 4-H leader, Janet Braun for eight sessions.
By following the Kids in the Kitchen Program, the students were encouraged to eat heathier meals and snacks.
During each of the sessions the participants learned to prepare healthy, simple foods they can make for themselves and family members.
In addition to learning about nutrition, the students also learned about kitchen safety, physical activity and basic cooking techniques.
SNAC Club members also learn to advocate for increased healthy awareness, education, and initiatives to improve the health of their community.
The members of this club chose to also participate in the Move Across Missouri Project.
The students chose this advocacy project because they wanted to encourage each other and their families to lead a more active lifestyle.
Major support for this 4-H SNAC Club was provided by Healthy Blue in partnership with the Miissouri 4-H Foundation. The funds received were used to purchase the food and supplies needed for the lessons and take home items the students received.
