Leslie ‘Les’ M. Deterding

A funeral will be held Saturday, March 26, 2022 for 88-year-old Leslie “Les” M. Deterding of Modoc, Ill., who passed away at 12:25 pm, Tuesday, March 22, 2022 at his residence. 

 

He was born June 24, 1933 in Evansville the son of Ernest Robert and Ida Monica (nee Simpson) Deterding, who both preceded him in death.  

 

He is survived by three children: Jeff (Sharon) Deterding of Red Bud, Ill., Barb (Mike) Grohman of Red Bud, Ill. and John (Laura) Deterding of Modoc, Ill.; 10 grandchildren: David (Stephanie) Deterding, Monica (Michael) Chi, Kayla (Donald) Fowler, Chelsea (Mike) Tornetto, Annie Perez, Ben Grohmann, Theresa Deterding, James (Amanda) Deterding, Brian Deterding and Catherine Deterding; 11 great grandchildren: Isabella, John, Sophia and Colette Deterding, Caroline, Abigail and Henry Chi, Jackson and Samuel Fowler and Tessa and Milo Tornetto and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

           

He was also preceded in death by his wife; two sisters: Alice (Leslie) Hemmer & Mae  (Larry Senf & Mel Cook) and 1 Brother – Walter (Mary) Deterding

 

Les was a kind, forgiving, humble, and hard working man. He loved his family first and foremost.

 

In 1954-1955, he served in United State Army and was stationed in Germany.

 

After returning home, Les married Rita T. Heine on April 7, 1956 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Prairie du Rocher, Illinois.

 

She preceded him in death on December 26, 2020. 

 

Farming was his passion and he loved every minute of it.

 

He enjoyed hunting mushrooms and picking up pecans with his kids and grand kids.

 

He and his beloved wife, Rita, enjoyed traveling a lot within the United States.

 

Les loved to play Euchre and he had a wonderful sense of humor.

 

He loved animals and had a big heart.  He had an easy laugh and lived life to it’s fullest.

 

Les had a lot of friends and he loved to socialize and tell stories about the good old days.

 

He was very loved and will be missed, but never forgotten. 

 

He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Red Bud, Illinois, American Legion Post No. 622 in Prairie du Rocher and the Randolph County Farm Bureau.

 

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday, March 25, 2022 and 8-9:45 a.m. Saturday, March 26, 2022 at the Pechacek Funeral Home in Red Bud.

           

A funeral mass for 88-year-old Leslie “Les” M. Deterding of Modoc will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, March 26, 2022 at the St. John  the Baptist Catholic Church in Red Bud, Illinois. The Rev. Msgr. Dennis Schaefer will officiate.

 

 

Interment will be in the St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery in Red Bud, Illinois.

 

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
