No one hurt when semi hits Ste. Genevieve R-II school bus

STE. GENEVIEVE — No one was injured Tuesday morning when a tractor-trailer rig ran into the side of a Ste. Genevieve School District R-II School bus at the intersection of Highway 32 and I-55.

Michael “Buck” Jokerst of Fallert Bus Service says there was only one child and the driver, Noelani Mitchell, on board the bus at the time. Neither was hurt.

Jokerst said the truck struck the side of the bus in front of the rear wheels. The child was sitting behind the driver in the front of the bus.

Jokerst says the truck driver apparently stopped at the end of the southbound on ramp and then proceeded onto 32, striking the bus which was in front of him.

A second bus was sent out to pick up the rest of the children on Route 9, which begins on Watts Road off 32 and then proceeds toward Ste. Genevieve. Jokerst said Mitchell had just begun her route.

Jokerst said the bus sustained what he would call a bit worse than moderate damage. He won’t know whether it will be totaled out or repaired until he hears from the insurance company.
