Viola M. Guemmer

A funeral will be held Friday, March 11, 2022 for 92-year-old Viola M. Guemmer of Perryville, Mo who passed away Monday, March 7, 2022 at Independence Square in Perryville.

She was born September 24, 1929 in Perry County, Mo, the daughter of John and Amanda( Lorenz) Koenig who both preceded her in death.

Viola married Robert Guemmer December 18, 1948. He preceded her in death on August 14, 1999.

She is survived by three sons and two daughters: Gerald (Ramona) Guemmer of Jacksonville, Ala., Donald (Gail) Guemmer of Arlington, Tex., Debra K. Masiel of St. Louis, Connie (Scott) Lausen of Galveston, Tex., Timothy (Elizabeth) Guemmer of McKinney, Tex.; a brother: Larry (Catherine) Koenig of Perryville; a sister: Jane Short of Cape Girardeau; a sister-in-law: Ardene Koenig of Arnold, Mo; five grandchildren: Sarah (Jake) Fiehler, Matthew (Kristen) Masiel, Amanda (Josh) Jacob, Jake (Brandy) Balsman, Jared Guemmer and ten great grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by six brothers: Welmar, Oliver, Ruben, Willis, Marvin and Glennon “Pete” Koenig; and two sisters: Frances Koenig and Evelyn Zahner.

She began working as seamstress for Olie Moore Dress Co. in Perryville.

 

She then went to work at International Shoe factory in Perryville.

 

She worked in the Perry County Memorial Hospital OB department for 20 years where she loved working with the babies in the nursery.

 

Lastly she worked at Perryville High School in the cafeteria for 16 years.

 

Viola’s favorite pastimes were quilting, sewing and crocheting.

Viola was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Immanuel Lutheran Ladies Aid, American Legion Post 133 Auxiliary, and a volunteer with Perry County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.

Visitation will be from 8-10 a.m. Friday, March 11, 2022 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Perryville.

A funeral for 92-year-old Viola M. Guemmer of Perryville will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 11, 2022 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Perryville with the Rev. Joseph Schlie officiating.

Burial will be at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Perryville.

Memorial contributions may be given to Immanuel Lutheran Building Fund or Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery.
