A funeral will be held Saturday, March 12, 2022 for 81-year-old Curtis Willard Meyer of Bloomsdale, Mo. who passed away January 9, 2022 in Jackson, Ala. surrounded by family and loved ones.
Curt was born March 26, 1940 to Carl Meyer and Meldred Meyer, who both preceded him in death.
Curt was also preceded in death by his loving wife of 30 years Sharon.
Curt is survived by his brother: Gary Meyer (Vicki), sister: Charlotte Foster (Charles “Buddy”), sister: Carla Meyer (Edwin), stepson: Brent Benassi (Lori), daughter: Crystal Carroll (Michael Sifrit), son: Dosker Meyer (Eva), seven grandkids: Corey Meyer (Mandy), Caley Meyer (Kelsey), Caitlin Meyer (Brad), Courtney Isaak (Austin), Carli Moss (Justin), Greyson Siddens, Emersen Siddens and nine great-grandchildren.
Curt grew up in Breese, Ill. and attended school in Breese and Carlyle, Ill.
He started working in a shoe factory and lumber company, but quickly moved into the trucking industry as an owner-operator in the early 70’s.
In 1985, Curt moved to Ste. Genevieve, Mo. and started a small division of Beelman Truck Co, called US Carriers, in a building behind The Genevieve Tavern. This four-truck division grew into the 200+ truck unit operation that currently operates in Ste. Genevieve, Mo. Before his retirement he opened other terminals in Indianapolis, Ind., Chicago, Ill. and St. Louis, Mo.
Curt never met a stray animal he wouldn’t take in – dogs, cats, racoons, opossum, squirrels or pigs.
In retirement he was an avid fisherman.
Curt was a tough man with a heart of gold, he loved life and loved to laugh. He will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 12, 2022 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Ste. Genevieve.
