Two Randolph Co. school newspapers honored

CHESTER – Two Randolph County school newspapers won the Blue Banner Award at the Southern Illinois Student Press Association winter conference Feb. 23 at Southern Illinois University Carbondale.

The Chester High School Sting won SISPA’s highest honor in the digital category, and the Coulterville High School Screaming Eagle was named in the print category.

For the Sting, Editor Emma Bryant received a first for onsite editorial writing and a third for submitted editorial. Ace Smith shared a first with Aden McFarland for multimedia story page. Smith also took second in the multimedia story category and third in onsite feature writing.

Other Chester staffers winning multiple awards were Jordanna Frazer, second for submitted review and third for onsite review; and Kerringtyn Malley, third for both advertising and original art.

Sting staffers earning seconds were Madi Kribs, submitted editorial; and Lily Lochhead, submitted review. Haley Hoskin took third for onsite editorial.
