Coulterville woman seriously injured in Washington County traffic crash

DUQUOIN — A 52-year-old Coulterville woman was seriously injured in a traffic crash at the intersection of Illinois Route 153 and Marissa Road in Washington County Tuesday night.

The Illinois State Police reports Karen Blank was flown to a regional hospital for treatment.

Police say Blank was the driver of a 2021 Ford Bronco which was traveling east on Marissa Road, approaching its intersection with Route 153. She failed to stop at the intersection and collided with the front of a northbound 2015 Peterbilt tractor-trailer rig driven by 27-year-old Bradley Schnitker of Hoyletown, who refused medical treatment. After the impact, the Bronco spun around and struck the front of a southbound 2018 Ford Edge driven by 82-year-old Thomas Welch of Sparta. He and his passenger, 78-year-old Charlyn Welch, also of Sparta, both refused medical treatment.

The crash happened about 9:35 p.m.

Blank was cited for failure to yield at a stop intersection and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
