Bonnie R. (Shafer) Scherer

A memorial service will be held at a future date for 79-year-old Bonnie R. (Shafer) Scherer who passed away Tuesday, February 8, 2022 at her residence in Perryville, Mo.

 

She was born February 6, 1943 in north Perry County (Pea Ridge), the daughter of Elmer and Ruth (Brown) Shafer who both preceded her in death.

 

She married Charles “Chuck” Scherer of Perryville Februrary 2, 1964. He survives in Perryville.

 

Other survivors include a son: Michael (Tabitha) Scherer and two grandchildren all of Waterloo, Ind., and brothers: Kenneth (Elizabeth) Shafer of Huntington, W.V., Larry (Carol) Shafer of Delaware, Ohio, John Shafer of Sedalia, Mo., and Lynn (Fran) Shafer of Wilton, Iowa.

 

Also preceding her in death was her eldest brother: Ellis Shafer.


Bonnie was a 1961 graduate of Perryville High School.

 

She attended the University of Missouri for five semesters. She completed her BS degree in Education in 1972 at SW Texas State University and earned a Masters Degree in Education in 1987 at the University of South Carolina.

Her work experience included office assistant positions, teaching adult education courses in office skills, and as an office systems instructor at the Sumter Area Technical College.

Raising and showing Cardigan Welsh Corgis was her hobby for 25 years. Her dogs earned over 40 American Kennel Club championships. Some won Obedience Titles and one was a Canadian Champion in both conformation and obedience. In addition, she also served as newsletter editor, recording secretary and board member of the Cardigan Welsh Corgi Club of America.

A memorial service and interment will be held at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery Bloomfield at a future date with Chuck Cathcart officiating.
