Mo Dems: Hawley Promises a Racist “Battle” for Supreme Court Seat

ST. LOUIS –Missouri Senator Josh Hawley once again showed his true colors when degrading President Biden’s promise to nominate an African American woman during a national interview yesterday. When asked about Biden’s upcoming Supreme Court nomination, Hawley stated Biden must nominate “someone who loves the Constitution” and is not a “woke activist.”

Missouri Democratic Party Chairman Michael Butler released the following statement after Hawley’s interview:

“Josh is spreading hate and racism again. His comments and tweets do not represent the best of Missouri, nor the dignity of the office he holds. Directly saying an African American woman can’t love the Constitution or by default is a “woke activist” is as clear a dog whistle as any ivy league lawyer can do. These words hurt, not just myself and my community but the reputation of our state. There is NO question that an African American judge, someone who has put decades into this country’s justice system, “loves” the Constitution. She more than “loves” it actually – she studies it and forms detailed and educated opinions, learns from its century’s old lessons, embodies the American promise and dedicates herself to carry out the desires of the Founding Fathers, which is the opposite of Josh Hawley.
