Chester Fire Department has three calls in five days

   CHESTER – The Chester Fire Department was kept busy last week with three fire calls in five days:

Thursday Jan. 20

5:44 am 

House fire, appears to be upstairs

5:58 am

Re-call: 24 Washington Blvd

Structure fire: all manpower requested

Total loss: cause: undetermined: Chief Marty Bert: still under investigation; possible space heater

Sunday Jan. 23

2:23 pm

Structure fire

1112 Henry Street

2:26 second call

Fire on porch:  two juveniles playing with candle . Caught paper on fire. Threw it out the window. Landed on porch.  Significant damage to porch.

Monday Jan. 24

9:23 pm

111 Industrial Drive

Gilster’s Cereal Plant

Cereal caught on fire inside oven.

When hot cereal/fire came out the back of oven into plastic bin, fire increased.  

Damage to oven and plastic bin .  

Water and smoke damage. Messy

Employees evacuated:  no injuries
