A funeral will be held Monday, January 17, 2022 for 69-year-old D. Jean Jokerst of Ste. Genevieve who passed away Tuesday, January 11, 2022, at Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Festus, Mo.
She was born May 16, 1952 in Bonne Terre, Mo., the daughter of Paul Bloom and Mary Bloom Winebarger, who both preceded her in death.
Jean married Joseph P. Jokerst on February 20, 1971. He survives.
She is also survived by her children: Eric (Patricia) Jokerst; Camylle Jokerst with her children Austin, Makayla, Dalton, and Madalyn; and Nykina (Greta) Lambert with her step-children Katlyn and family, Luke and family, Levi and family; as well as many other friends and family.
She was also preceded in death by her step-father: Claude Winebarger.
Jean sold Life and Health insurance for her agency Jokerst Secured Futures and took great pride working for and servicing her clients.
Jean also enjoyed the many years she spent serving the Ste. Genevieve community as a Reserve Police Officer, Alderman, and member of the Board of Adjustments.
She was a member of the Ste. Genevieve Catholic Church.
Jean loved and was gifted with animals. She volunteered her time and resources for years to Ste. Genevieve doing animal control. Her years of service helped lead to the creation of the Ste. Genevieve Animal Control building. As an animal advocate, she was also involved in cases fighting animal abuse.
Most of all, Jean was extremely dedicated to her family. She loved joking, and playing with loved ones, laughing and talking politics with her friends, tending to encountered animals (dogs, cats, birds, raccoons, squirrels, etc), and honoring her land she stately name Liberty Independence.
A funeral for 69-year-old D. Jean Jokerst of Ste. Genevieve will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, January 17 at the Ste Genevieve Catholic Church.
Burial will be at a later date.
