Ste. Genevieve County Health reports on COVID-19 vaccine news

By Ste. Genevieve County Health Department

STE. GENEVIEVE — It’s been a busy week for COVID-19 vaccine news!

Booster doses are incredibly important to increase your level of immunity as new variants circulate.

Research shows that COVID-19 vaccines continue to be highly effective at preventing severe illness and death, but it’s important to note that both vaccine-induced immunity and disease-induced immunity appear to be diminishing over time.

Boosters can help broaden and strengthen that original protection from COVID-19.

Here’s the latest:

  • Adults are now encouraged to get a booster of Pfizer or Moderna 5 months after their primary series
  • Kids age 12 and up can now receive a Pfizer booster 5 months after their primary series
  • Kids age 5 and up who are immunocompromised can now receive a third dose of Pfizer 28 days after their second dose
  • Adults are now encouraged to get a booster of Pfizer or Moderna 5 months after their primary series
