Officials to discuss initiating container-on-vessel service on the Mississippi River

ST. LOUIS — Representatives from the Jefferson County (MO) Port Authority; Jefferson County, Missouri; Bi-State Development; American Patriot Holdings, and APM Terminals North America will gather today in Herculaneum to announce a new partnership that represents a significant milestone in the development of a Container-on-Vessel (COV) service to transport cargo along the underutilized Mississippi, Illinois and Missouri rivers.

The new COV service aims to create a more efficient, more affordable all-water north-south trade lane connecting the Midwest and the St. Louis region to the Plaquemines Port Harbor & Terminal District on the lower Mississippi River and on to worldwide destinations.

It will provide an innovative, cost-saving alternative for the transportation of goods and commodities, helping to counter future supply chain disruptions.

Those attending are expected to be include representatives from the Jefferson County Port Authority, Jefferson County, Bi-State Development, American Patriot Holdings, APM Terminals North America and the new partners joining the effort to deliver COV service to the St. Louis region

The meeting will be held at the Herculaneum Fire Department, 151 Riverview Plaza Drive Herculaneum, at 1:30 p.m. today.
