JEFFERSON CITY — State Rep. Craig Fishel will become the new chair of the House Consent and House Procedure Committee. Fishel was named to the post by Speaker Rob Vescovo prior to the start of the 2022 legislative session.
Vescovo said Fishel’s background as a small business owner and as a member of the Springfield City Council give him the experience and knowledge to help the House to streamline and improve the rules under which it operates. Fishel will play an important role in ensuring the House is able to do its work in a fair, responsible and efficient manner.
The House Committee on Consent and House Procedure is responsible for all bills and matters which the House Speaker decides is deserving of special consideration. The committee is tasked with formulating and presenting the rules of the House, and reviewing whether a consent bill should have consent status and whether it shall be placed on the appropriate consent calendar. An additional duty of the committee is to deal with all issues relating to the issuance of courtesy resolutions by the House.
As chair of the committee, Fishel will preside over committee hearings and be responsible for all legislation referred to the committee.
“I want to thank Speaker Vescovo for trusting me with this important position,” Fishel, R-Springfield, said. “This is a vital committee, as we must work to lay out the rules for this honored chamber and consider how to best operate within the confines of decorum. My experience in local government will be a guiding factor as we decide how best to serve the House this year.”
