STE. GENEVIEVE — The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is providing free school meals for all kids younger than 18 years during the entire 2021-2022 school year through June 30, 2022. This continues to positively impact all of our students and their families. However, one unforeseen result of this benefit may be a decrease in federal funding for local school districts.
Participation rates in free and reduced lunch programs are a component of the budget formula, and decreased participation rates may lead to a decrease in funding for the following school year. In order to minimize this impact for SG R-II, we have created an incentive program for families. Families who complete the free and reduced meal applications and are approved for the program, will be placed into a drawing for fantastic prizes.
Families who have already filled out their free and reduced lunch program application and been approved for the 2021-2022 school year will be placed into the drawing automatically— they will not need to complete the applications again this school year.
Families who are receiving assistance through state programs (SNAP, TANF, or FDPIR) will be placed into the drawing automatically.
The deadline to submit the Free and Reduced Meal applications is Friday. Jan. 21. Families are urged to complete the applications early, in case any changes or updates are needed for their applications to be approved.
Prizes will be drawn in February 2022. See the list of prizes below, as well as steps on how to complete the applications for the 2021-2022 school year.
