‘Scouting for Food’ drive is success, brings in 4,600 items

CHESTER — Boy Scouts from Chester and their leaders were kept busy recently sorting some 4,600 food items collected at this year’s Boy Scouts “Scouting for Food” project.

This annual project has been conducted by scouts across America for decades and helps provide much needed food for the hungry.

The items collected by the Chester Boys Scouts are always donated to the Chester Area Christian Food Pantry.

Each year the Scouts deliver blue plastic food collection bags across the City of Chester two weeks before Thanksgiving.  Citizens fill the bags and put them on their front porches to be collected by the Scouts the Saturday before Thanksgiving.

The bags are then taken to Grace Church in Chester where they are sorted into containers of “like” items and taken to the food pantry.
