Ellis Grove man hurt when car runs off end of Roots Road

CHESTER — A 28-year-old Ellis Grove man was hurt in a traffic crash at the intersection of Roots Road and Illinois Route 3 in Randolph County Saturday night.

The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office reports Max L. Beare was taken to Carbondale Memorial for treatment.

According to the sheriff’s report Beare was the driver of an eastbound 2014 Ford Fusion which failed to stop at the intersection with Illinois Route 3. The car struck a tree partially, then ran into a swimming pool before coming to a stop on its side behind a house in the 100 block of Brian Street.

The report says Beare admitted to falling asleep at the wheel.

He was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, disobeying a traffic control device, failure to wear a safety belt and unlawful transportation of alcohol.

The crash happened about 10:26 pm.
