Niece launches fund raiser for uncle, Randy Grindstaff

STE. GENEVIEVE — Lindsey Turner is organizing a GoFundMe for her uncle, Randy Grindstaff of Ste. Genevieve, who lost literally everything in a house fire that destroyed his home November 7th.

This is her story:

“This morning Nov. 7, 2021, I woke to a devastating phone call. Randy’s home caught fire with he and his two dogs inside. By the Grace of God the firefighters got him out in time, but he is burned, his home and everything inside is a total loss, and the most unfortunate part of this whole tragedy is that the dogs didn’t make it out of the fire. To anyone who knows Randy – his dogs were the only important thing in his life. He trained them in Vietnamese, they went everywhere with him, never needed a leash, they gave him purpose.

“He has no clothes, no shoes, nothing. Even the key to his car was burned in the fire. We are starting from scratch, which is why I really, REALLY need your help. The home was uninsured, but he does own the land so we are trying to get him some money to help with rebuilding eventually, to pay for his medical bills, and get him anything else he needs.

“A little bit about Randy for those that don’t know him, he was born in 1947 right here in Alton. He served our country for many years in the Navy. He is a Vietnam veteran. He devoted his life to this country, and never asked for much from anyone. He worked at the Mississippi Line and had many other jobs after that and has since retired.

“If you can find it in your heart to help, whether it’s by donating or sharing, I know my family, myself, and my uncle would very much appreciate it.”
