PERRYVILLE – Perry County School District No. 32 is collecting toiletries and household items for families in need this winter and the district is making it easy to donate.
A drive-thru drop off will be held from 7 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 19 at the district’s central office at 400 Edwards St.
Items needed include: heavy-duty laundry baskets, detergent, paper towel, facial and toilet tissue, dish soap, kitchen towels, sponges and scrubbies, household cleansers, hand soap, body wash, shampoo and conditioner, toothpaste and toothbrushes.
“Baskets of collected items will be given to Perry County families who need a helping hand,” said Kate Martin, who coordinates the winter giving programs at District 32. “Simple household necessities are always at the top of the Christmas list for parents who find themselves struggling at the holidays. This is our first basket drive, and we hope to collect enough supplies for all of the 40 families in our Backpacks For Friday hunger relief program. Donors can just pull up in front of the Old Senior High and volunteers will unload your supplies.
“The basket drive will supplement the Winter Warm Up coat, shoes and gift program for students in need,” Martin said. “Local businesses led by SEMCO Stone adopt the students and provide the gifts, which is a blessing to many families each year. We’re so grateful to our community for caring so well for our children!”
