Ste. Genevieve man seriously injured in Highway 61 crash

JEFFERSON CITY — A 38-year-old Ste. Genevieve man suffered serious injuries in a traffic crash on Highway 61 in Ste. Genevieve County Monday afternoon.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports Matthew E. Zerwig was flown to Mercy Hospital St. Louis by an Air Evac helicopter.

The patrol says the crash happened when a southbound 2007 Ford Taurus driven by Zerwig struck the rear end of a southbound 2014 Freightliner driven by 61-year-old Scott E. Quinton of Farmington. The truck driver was not hurt.

The patrol said Quinton was buckled up, but said it was not known if Zerwig was using his seat belt.

The crash happened about 4:02 p.m. at Pfaff Road.

The patrol says the Taurus was a total loss, while the Freightliner had minor damage.
