CHESTER — The American Legion Post 487 in Chester will host the Annual Veteran’s Day Ceremony on Veteran’s Day Thursday November 11 at 10 a.m.
Last year’s ceremony had to be cancelled due to Covid-19 restrictions.
It is encouraging that an annual tradition in Chester will return this year!
The 2021 event will be held in the American Legion Hall and the public is strongly encouraged to attend to honor local veterans. The American Legion and VFW will join forces to bring the 2021 program to fruition.
The program will begin at 10 a.m. with the presentation of the Colors by a combined American Legion and VFW Color Guard. American Legion Commander, Randy Werner will then give a warm welcome to everyone in attendance.

Steve Colonel and the Chester High School Yellow Jacket Band will be on hand to provide music throughout the ceremony.
Local Boy Scouts will also be in attendance to participate in the event.
Rev. Dr. Mike Fogerson will give an invocation after which Mayor Tom Page will give a greeting on behalf of the City of Chester.
Commander Randy Werner of the Legion will provide comments and the VFW Commander will have a stand-in to provide his comments due to the fact that he will be out of town.
Special Guest Speaker will be Illinois State Representative David Friess of Red Bud. This will be Friess’ first presentation at a Chester Veteran’s Day Ceremony, since being elected as State Representative.
Following the message from Friess, the Color Guard will present the annual Salute to Veterans, followed by the playing of Taps by Southern Illinois University musicians, brothers, Zach and Blake Zappa of Chester.
The program will end with a Benediction provided by Pastor Mike Fogerson of the First Baptist Church in Chester.
Everyone in attendance is welcome and invited to stay for a FREE Veteran’s Day luncheon provided the American Legion Auxiliary.
