Valle received the No. 1 seed in the Class 3 District 2 Tournament and will play fourth seed Park Hills or fifth seed Arcadia Valley at 5 p.m. Monday, October 25th.

Ste Genevieve received the No. 2 seed in the Class 3, District 2 Tournament and will play Potosi at 6:30 p.m. Monday October 25th at at Park Hills Central.

PERRYVILLE — Perryville has the fifth seed in the Class 4 District 1 Tournament at Cape Central.

Perryville plays fourth seed Sikeston at 6 p.m. Thursday.

JACKSON — Saxony Lutheran has the second seed in the Class 2 District 3 Tournament at Park Hills Central.

The Crusaders play third seed Scott City Monday at 6:45 p.m.

PERRYVILLE — St. Vincent has the No. 2 seed in the Class 1 District 4 Tournament at Perryville.

St. Vincent plays the winner of Saturday’s game between No 3 seed Oak Ridge and No 6 seed Principia at 8 p.m. Monday.

 

Perryville Basscasters

PERRYVILLE – The Perryville Basscasters had its final tournament this past weekend.

The Grand Finale was the Classic at Pickwick Lake where the top 12 fishermen battled very windy conditions the first day and a very tough bite.


First place: Avery Behrle 8.29
Second place: Sam Zahner 6.33
Third place: Chad Unterreiner 6.02

Big Bass of the tournament was Avery Behrle at 3.61.

 

In High School Softball:

PERRYVILLE — 15-13 Perryville plays 9-15 St Charles West today at 4:30 p.m. in a state quarter final game on Perryville City Park Field No. 8.

 

In High School Soccer:

PERRYVILLE — Perryville has junior varsity and varsity games with visiting Cape Central Thursday at 5 p.m.

JACKSON — Saxony Lutheran plays at Bayless Wednesday, October 27th at 5:30 p.m.

 

In Middle School Football:

STE. GENEVIEVE — Ste. Genevieve wraps up its season Thursday when they host Perryville at 4 p.m.

In High School Cross Country:

CHS Cross Country is running towards the end of season

CHESTER — The Chester High School Cross Country team is running to the end… of the 2021 season that is.  The Jackets will run their final regular season meet the week of October 18-23 and then post-season meets will begin.

Chester ran at Benton Monday October 18 and will compete Saturday October 23 at the 2021 IHSA Regional Meet.  Those advancing to Sectionals will run Saturday October 30.

Here are the results of recent meets at which the YellowJackets and Lady Jackets have competed.

Freeburg Invitational Meet

At Freeburg there were 137 girls that competed and 139 boys.  It was a sunny day with 60 degrees and a 1 mile per hour wind blowing. 

The winner of the girls’ race was Elena Rybak from Father McGivney School.  She had a time of 17:20.4 and a pace of 5:47.  Chester’s Madi Kribs finished 123rd with a time of 26.41.4 and a pace of 8:54.  Teammate Josalyn Anaya finished 131st with her time of 27:42.3 and pace of 9:15 per mile.

Chester did not have a team score in the girls’ race.  Waterloo won the girls’ Division with 69 points.  There was a field of 17 teams in the event.

In the boys’ division there were 19 teams.  Benton won the event with 88 points.  Chester finished 18th with 481 points.  The overall winner was Gavin Genisio of Benton with his 14:47.9 performance and pace of 4:56 per mile.

Chester was led by Blake farmer in 71st place out of 139 runners. He had a time of 18:41.6 and pace of 6:14.  Jacob Handel finished 102nd with a time of 19:48.9 and a pace of 6:37.  Blake Huffman finished 117th with a time of 21:05 and pace of 7:02.

Hunter Decker, a new runner on the YellowJacket squad finished 135th with his time of 25:41.4 and pace of 8:34 per mile.  Will Welge finished 137th. His time was 27:05.5 and pace was 9:02.

Nashville Invitational

The Nashville Invitational featured 104 male runners and 86 female runners.  The Boys’ Division had 19 schools represented with 12 team scores.  Pinckneyville was the overall winner with 55 points.  Chester did not have a team score.

Isaac Teel of Pinckneyville was the winner of the race with his time of 15:58.89.  Chester was paced by Blake Farmer who turned in a time of 20:01.36.  He finished 35th overall out of 104 competitors.  Jacob Handel finished 74th with a time of 22:17.31.  Will Welge finished 101st with his time of 27:20.66.

In the girls’ Division there were 19 schools represented with nine team scores.  Pinckneyville was the winner with 47 points.  Chester did not have a team score.

The overall winner of the girls’ race was Olivia Phillips of DuQuoin.  Her time was 19:05.71.  The Lady Jackets were led by Madi Kribs with her place of 76th and her time of 29:11.99.  Josalynn Anaya finished 82nd with a time of 32:18.65.

Pinckneyville Invitational

At Pinckneyville there were seven boys’ team scores.  Pinckneyville won the race with 25 points.  Chester did not have a team score.  The overll winner of the race was Isaac Teel who turned in a lead time of 16:05.

Chester entered just three runners including Jacob Handel (41st, 20:55), Blake Farmer (45th, 21:07), and Blake Huffman (57th, 22:59).

In the girls’ race there were nine team scores.  Chester did not have a team score.  The winner of girls’ race was DuQuoin who had 63 points.  The overall winner of the race was Olivia Phillips who had a time of 19:11.

Chester’s two runners were Maria Nickle who had a time of 26:39 and a place of 56th. Josalynn Anaya ran her race in 31:56 and she placed 70th. 

 

Carterville Invitational

The Carterville Invite featured 12 boys’ teams and 102 runners.  The winner of the event was Steeleville who had 42 points.  Chester did not field a team score.

The overall winner of the race was Nick Fehr of Red Bud.  He finished with a time of 16:00 flat. The YellowJackets only fielded four runners.  Blake Farmer led CHS with a 24th place finish and a time of 18:28. 

Jacob Handel placed 54th and had a time of 19:45.9.  Blake Huffman finished 90th with his 23:11.5 performance.  Rounding out the Chester contingent was Will Welge who finished 100th and had a time of 27:05.8.

There were seven teams in the girls’ Division.  Carterville was the winner with 48 points.  Chester did not have a team score.  Ahry Comer won the girls’ race with a time of 18:13.  She is from Golconda Pope County.

Chester runners included Maria Nickle, Josalynn Anaya, and Madi Kribs.  Nickle finished 48 out of 65 runners with her time of 27:20.7.  Anaya finished 62nd with a time of 32:06.3.  Kribs finished 64th with her 35:21 performance.

31st Annual Chester Invitational Cross Country Meet

The 31st Annual Chester Invitational Cross Country Meet was held at the Randolph County Conservation Area on a mostly cloudy day with a 5-mph South wind and a temperature of 79 degrees.         

In the Boys’ Team Competition there were eight teams including Chester, Freeburg, Christ Our Rock Lutheran, Columbia, Nashville, Okawville, Sparta, and Marissa.  Nashville won the team competition with 29 points, followed by Columbia (2nd, 75), Freeburg (3rd, 93), Christ Pout=r Rock (4th, 116), Marisa (5th, 123), Okawville (6th, 134). Chester (7th, 167), and Sparta (8th, 186).

A total of 79 boys raced including 46 in the Varsity Division and 33 in the Freshman/Sophomore Division. 

The Varsity Division was won by Nick Fehr of Red Bud.  He had a time of 16:44.6 and a pace of 5:35 per mile.  Chester had two boys compete in this division including Jacob Handel and Blake Huffman. 

Handel finished 19th out of 46 runners with his time of 19:38.6 and pace of 6:33 per mile.  Huffman finished 31st out of 46 runners.  His time was 21:16.3 and his pace was 7:06 minutes per mile.

The Freshman/Sophomore Division was won by Ethan Hogan of Columbia.  Hogan had a time of 18:49.7 and he set the pace of 6:17 minutes per mile. Chester had three runners compete in this event including Blake Farmer, Hunter Decker, and Will Welge. 

Farmer, a sophomore, finished 5th out of 33 competitors with his time of 19:39.9 and pace of 6:34.  Decker, a freshman, finished 29th with a time of 26:22.2 and pace of 8:48.  Welge, a freshman, finished 33rd with his time of 29:34.2 and pace of 9:52.

In the Girls’ Team Competition there were just four teams including Christ Our Rock Lutheran, Okawville, Nashville, and Freeburg. Chester did not have a team score. The winner of the Girls’ Team Competition was Christ Our Rock with 39 points, followed by Okawville (2nd, 43), Nashville (3rd, 46), and Freeburg (4th, 91).

A total of 54 girls competed at the invite including 29 in the Varsity Division and 25 in the Freshman/Sophomore Division.  At race time it was 81 degrees and there was a 5 mph wind under mostly cloudy skies. 

Chester had two girls compete at the Varsity level including Maria Nickel and Madi Kribs.  Nickle finished 19th out of 29 runners.  Her time was 26:31.4 and she had a pace of 8:54 per mile.  Kribs finished 27th with her 30:37.9 performance and her pace of 10”13 per mile.  Both girls are seniors.

Sarah McKowen of Christ Our Rock won the Varsity race with a time 20:41.1 and pace of 6:54.

Josalynn Anaya competed in the Freshman/Sophomore Division. That race featured 25 runners led by winner, Lydia Luechtefeld of Okawville.  Her winning time was 22:19.5 and her winning pace was 7:27 minutes per mile.

Josalynn Anaya of Chester, a sophomore, finished 22nd overall and turned in a time of 32:02.0.  She had a pace of 10:41 per mile.

PERRYVILLE — Perryville runs in the Class 4 District 1 meet Saturday, October 30 at Hillsboro.

PERRYVILLE — St. Vincent runs in the Class 3 District 1 meet Saturday, October 30 at Arcadia Valley.

STE. GENEVIEVE — Ste. Genevieve next competes in the Class 3 District 1 meet Saturday, October 30th at Arcadia Valley.

JACKSON — Saxony Lutheran runs in the Class 2 District 1 meet at Arcadia Valley High School.

STE. GENEVIEVE — Valle runs in the Class 2 District 1 meet at Arcadia Valley.
