STE. GENEVIEVE — An explosion and fire at a Ste. Genevieve home Friday afternoon caused considerable damage to the frame structure, but no one was hurt.
According to reports, the fire broke out in the noon hour at a home on the southwest corner of Eight and Jefferson Streets.
It was initially reported as an explosion and fire. Police units arriving on the scene reported flames and a great deal of smoke.
The family who lived in the home was reported to have three children.
The cause of the fire has not been reported.
The fire forced parents picking up their children from nearby Ste. Genevieve Elementary School to take a detour as Eighth Street was closed to all traffic at Jefferson. The school district notified parents of the detour using its mass texting program.
