STE. GENEVIEVE – University of Missouri Extension will once again this season host the Ste. Genevieve Adopt-a-Family program.
The Adopt-a-Family program helps create a positive and memorable holiday for children in Ste. Genevieve County by providing gifts, clothing, and necessities to families in need. The focus is on children under the age of 15. Individuals may submit their family for consideration from October 11 through November 12.
In order to have a successful program this year, MU Extension is reaching out to the community to find organizations and individual donors. Donors choose the number of children they would like to “adopt” for the holiday season. After a match is made, they receive a wish list. Presents are brought to the Extension office to be distributed to the families. Family data other than that contained within gift requests are kept confidential.
Monetary donations are acceptable for those who prefer to that method of contribution, and the Extension can perform shopping on the donor’s behalf.
“Last year, 106 children received gifts, thanks to the generosity of donors,” said Estrella Carmona, MU Extension Community Engagement Specialist and manager of the Adopt-a-Family program. “We were excited by the success of last year’s program, and we hope this one will equal or surpass it in reaching families in need this year.”
If an organization or individual is interested in being a donor, please contact University of Missouri Extension at (573) 883-3548.
