A funeral will be held Wednesday, October 20, 2021 for 91-year-old Evelyn L. Hecht of Chester, Illinois, who passed away at 1:14 pm, Friday, October 15, 2021 at Independence Care Center, Perryville, Missouri.
She was born January 8, 1930 in Mulberry Grove, Illinois to George W. and Edna B. (nee Kleinik) Elam who both preceded her in death.
Evelyn married Clarence W. Hecht on June 11, 1955 at Peace Lutheran Church in Chester, Illinois; he preceded her in death on September 3, 2007.
She is survived by two children: Kenneth (Karen) Hecht and Janet (David) Bargman, both of Chester, Ill.; two siblings: Anna (Russell) Keeling of Lowry City, Mo. and Ronnie (Millie) Elam of Vandalia, Ill.; a sister-in-law: Neva Elam of Vandalia, Ill.; a brother-in-law: Paul (Joyce) Hecht Chester, Ill.; four grandchildren: Sarah (Tony) Schenk of Evansville, Ill., Justin (Stephanie) Hecht of Steeleville, Ill., Jared Bargman (Fiancee Stephanie Brown) of Chester, Ill., and Devon (Joshua) McMillan of Osteen, Fla.; 10 great grandchildren: Camden Davis, Jack Schenk, Kaden and Adelyn Hecht, Bailie Bargman and Emilee, Logan, Maverick and Haven McMillan
She was also preceded in death by: two brothers: George “Junior” Elam and Donnie (Delores) Elam; an infant sister: Doris Elam; a niece: Sherry Elam; a nephew: Brent Elam; in-laws: Howard W. and Mary (Moll) Hecht; two brothers-in-law: Herbert (Wilma) Hecht and Glen (Judy) Hecht and two sisters-in-law: Helen (Bernard) Korando and Elsie (Wilbert) Rickenberg.
She had worked as a registered nurse at Memorial Hospital in Chester for more than 40 years where she was the head of the obstetrics department and taught prenatal classes for several years.
Evelyn was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Chester where she was active in several committees.
She was also a 4H leader.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at the Pechacek Funeral Homes in Chester, Illinois and 9-11 a.m. Wednesday, October 20, 2021 at the Peace Lutheran Church in Chester, Illinois.
A funeral for 91-year-old Evelyn L. Hecht of Chester, Illinois, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 20, 2021 at Peace Lutheran Church in Chester, Illinois. Minister Deb Rathert will officiate.
Interment will be in the St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Chester, Illinois
